Highlights from my Christmas holiday in California.

Friday, December 25:

Christmas with family. Dinner and drinks!

I did a half size tree this year, instead of the full size extravaganza that usually took 3 days to finish. (I take my tree very seriously) This one is all vintage ornaments and lights.

Saturday, December 26:

Fly to LA

Check into the Nikko (How swish!)

Dinner and drinks in WEHO! (West Hollywood)

 

Sunday, December 27:

Pick up guests from San Francisco and spend most of the day at the new Getty Center.

Dinner and drinks, (martinis) an early night.

 

Monday, December 28:

LA is a dreadful place. Walked two blocks to the Beverly Center, not a sole on the street, I'm sure we looked like total tourists (Oh my god! There walking! Where's their car?)

Checked out of the Nikko and headed off to Hollywood for a few Liberace points of interest.

Drove by Liberace's former Hollywood Penthouse on Beverly Boulevard. A very unattractive building, and not much of a neighborhood. I just don't like LA!

Next stop, Hollywood Boulevard and Liberace's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Drive to Forest Lawn Memorial Park to view Liberace's final resting place.

Drive to palm Springs and check into The Hacienda at Warm Springs.

 

Tuesday, December 29:

A very lazy day, sunning by the pool. Very warm sun during the day, and cool at night. A very peaceful setting with a spectacular view of the mountains.

Quick shopping spree and visit with a friend at BRAVO! for men.

Jacuzzi and swim before dinner.

Dinner and more drinks.

 

Wednesday, December 30:

More sunning by the pool. Short trip to town to check out a few of the antique stores. The best one was closed.

Made a quick drive-by of Liberace's former home on Belardo Rd., "Casa De Liberace." Plan to take a few photos on Thurs.

Thursday, December 31- New Year's Eve

More sunning by the pool.

Another short trip to town for a little shopping.

Photo opportunity at "Casa De Liberace."

Celebrate the New Year (twice!) First at 9:00 pm (12:00 pm New York time) and then again at 12:00 pm.

 

Friday, January 1, 1999:

Recover from the two New Year's celebrations. Sunning by the pool.

Attempted to go to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway but the road was closed due to a brush fire. Decide to have lunch in town. Later drove back to the Aerial Tramway, (fire was out) very long line, decided it wasn't necessary to go to the top. Bought a lighter!

Pack up the bags for an early departure Saturday morning.

Dinner and drinks.

 

Saturday, January 2:

6:00 am - Drive from Palm Springs to LA for a 10:15 flight back to New York.
