Love to be with You

Available March 10, 2007

“DORIS DAY– LOVE TO BE WITH YOU” is Zone Records first volume of
“The Doris Day Show” featuring 4 consecutive editions of her one and only radio series,
which now for the first time in over 50 years, can be heard again.

Doris Day has achieved iconic status. In addition to becoming a perpetually adored actress via her spectacular film career, she is also an irresistible singer, bringing an air of sparkling vitality and radiant freshness to every song she sings. In fact, in terms of today’s media, Doris remains as popular as she ever was.

Much has been written about Doris over the years. In fact every detail of her life has been well documented at one time or another. However, not much mention, if any, has been made of her one and only radio series, which was not only heard throughout America, but also overseas.

Doris embarked on The Doris Day Show, in the early 1950’s while simultaneously continuing with her filming. A host of other film stars made guest appearances throughout the run, many joining Doris in a duet when not particularly known for their own singing voice. The guest list was a cavalcade of Hollywood and Broadway stars as well as film producers and songwriters. Unique pieces of Hollywood history were captured, which now for the first time in over 50 years, can be heard again.

Here are some of the Hollywood stars that lined up to appear with Doris in her show - Kirk Douglas, Ronald Reagan, Dan Dailey, Charlotte Greenwood, Gordon MacRae, George Murphy, Broderick Crawford, Howard Keel, Danny Thomas, Cornel Wilde, Van Johnson and Donald O’Connor. Guests also included popular music stars, songwriters and personalities of the day, such as Harry James, Bob Crosby, George Jessel, Dick Haymes, Frankie Laine, Guy Mitchell, Johnny Desmond, Tony Martin, Frank Loesser, Ray Noble and Sammy Cahn as well as co-stars of some of Doris’ films, such as Mary Wickes and Jack Smith. The list goes on.

Even more Hollywood stars, such as Jack Benny, Joseph Cotton, Alan Ladd, John Payne, Ray Milland and David Niven contribute in the form of advertisements for other radio shows.

Zone Records present the first volume of this series, which comprises four consecutive shows. Guest appearances are from Ray Bolger (The Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz), songwriters Frank Loesser (If I Were A Bell, Baby It’s Cold Outside), Marais & Miranda (Sugarbush, Ma Says Pa Says), Mary Wickes (Sister Act), Gordon MacRae (Oklahoma), Donald O’Connor (Singing in the Rain) and Liberace. Amongst the many songs Doris sings are With a Song in my Heart, (Why did I tell You I was going to) Shanghai, A Guy is a Guy and Cuttin’ Capers.

To preserve the integrity of these shows, and also that they are heard as originally broadcast, nothing has been edited out, therefore giving today’s listener the same experience to that of it’s original audience.
