"Play-A-Like" Piano Competition To Highlight
Liberace's 81st Birthday Celebration In Las Vegas
Saturday - May 13th - 2000

The Liberace Museum will celebrate Liberace's 81st birthday with a series of special events which includes the eighth annual Liberace "Play- A-Like" Piano Competition. The "Play-A-Like" Competition, to be held on Saturday, May 13, 2000, will have two divisions: Amateur/Nonprofessional, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Advanced/Professional, beginning at 1:30 p.m. The event will be hosted by last year's winner of the Professional Division, Peter Robberecht "The Piano Man," with special guest performances by Liberace tribute artist, Will Collins. The competition will be judged by a panel made up of Las Vegas entertainment media, music academia, and The Liberace Foundation. Competitors will be scored on piano technique, material selection and performance style, with additional credit awarded to those demonstrating exceptional presentation and costuming. The contestant with the highest score in each of the two divisions will be awarded the Liberace Crystal Piano trophy all participants will receive official Certificates of Participation. The competition will take place at Carluccio's, Liberace's former restaurant, in the Liberace Plaza shopping center.

The non-profit Liberace Museum is a key funding arm for The Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts which has awarded more than $3.8 million in scholarship grants for the arts to date. The Liberace Foundation is currently funding 40 universities, schools and organizations across America; four are in Las Vegas.

With Free Concerts, Prizes
And Discount Admissions

Saturday - April 15 - 2000

The Liberace Museum will celebrate its 21st anniversary on Saturday, April 15, 2000, by offering free concerts, prizes and special discount admissions. Four of Las Vegas's most popular local bands FADED MOSES, LEFT STANDING, PHATTER THAN ALBERT and PIMP, will be performing free in The Liberace Museum parking lot from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Entrance to the Museum is free to everyone 21 years old with proper ID. A special $2.00 admission price is also available with a copy of the Las Vegas Weekly Liberace Museum Anniversary advertisement. Raffles during the afternoon event will benefit The Liberace Foundation scholarship fund.
The Liberace Museum, which was opened by Liberace on April 15, 1979, quickly became one of Las Vegas's most popular tourist attractions. The nonprofit Museum is a key funding arm for The Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts which has awarded more than $3.8 million in scholarship grants for the arts to date. The Liberace Foundation is currently funding 40 universities, schools and organizations across America; four are located in Las Vegas. The Liberace Museum was expanded after the entertainer's death in 1987 to house more of his costumes, pianos, cars, antiques and stage jewelry. More than 10,000 visitors tour the complex's two galleries each month.
