* CHRISTMAS 1957 *
November 1957
To my dear and Loyal Friends,
Another Holiday Season is almost upon us, and it is with a deep understanding of your kindness and generosity that I am prompted to make this sincere request of you at this time.
In former years I have been the recipient of many thousands of greeting cards and hundreds of gifts which, when accumulated, represented a value that was truly overwhelming. The postage and shipping charges alone could have clothed and fed an average family for a year. In return, I have tried to reciprocate this kindness and generosity at considerable expense to my organization by acknowledging every card and gift and, when you consider that it took eight people almost two months to handle this enormous task, you have some idea why I make this well-considered suggestion.
This year, instead of sending me or the members of my family and organization a card or gift, donate the like sum to your favorite charity, either an organized charitable institution; or if you prefer, a less fortunate individual. When you multiply this procedure thousands of times, think what a magnificent expression of Christmas Spirit you will help to spread throughout this entire world. Each and every one of you will be a messenger of good will.
I, too, will join you in this Holiday Spirit of Giving by donating the amount of money I usually spend for cards of acknowledgement, greetings and gifts, to my favorite charity which is the United Fund and Community Chest which embraces so many worthy individual charitable organizations.
If you really want to make this a Happy and Joyous Holiday, for me and all who surround me, please consider this request and you will, in so doing, make thousands of individuals experience the Spirit of the Christmas Season instead of lavishing all of it on a fortunate few.
Always in Good Faith,
Liberace
